Conservation and life in Borneo

Meet Clifford, my new “Canadazan” friend. Clifford was actually born in Sabah and is of Kadazan, Dusun and British ancestry, though he grew up in Papua New Guinea, before moving to Canada as a teenager. He’s a very interesting chap and could tattoo your leg as easily as build you a website. Moreover, he is passionate about wildlife.Image

Clifford has spent about 3 months in Borneo this year, volunteering at the BSBCC as well as assisting with research in Danum Valley. It was fascinating to talk with him and his experiences as our lives have had many parallel events. Clifford has a great deal of enthusiasm for sun bears and conservation in general and seems far better than me at identifying individual bears, even though he’s had less time here than I have.

It’s a shame we didn’t get more time to hang out and chat, but I’m sure our paths will cross in the future. Perhaps he’ll help me on my Kinabatangan forest swan survey?
